What “Solid Wood” Actually Means 

The term gets used loosely, and that costs buyers money. Plenty of cabinets are advertised as wood when the doors are MDF with a printed film and the boxes are particleboard. "Wood construction" can legally mean almost anything, so two cabinets described the same way can be built completely differently.

Solid wood means the doors, frames, and drawer boxes are made from real hardwood boards, not engineered panels dressed up to look like them. That is what gives a cabinet its strength, its weight, and its ability to be sanded and refinished years down the line.

It is a reasonable fear. Some cabinets marketed as solid wood cut corners in the places that fail first, thin drawer boxes, stapled joints, hardware mounted into a soft engineered core that strips loose under weight.

Real hardwood cabinetry is not just for people who live near the workshop. Through a private network of Amish shippers that has moved handcrafted furniture for generations, we deliver to homes in nearly every state, and have already shipped our furniture to 49 of them.

For customers outside Tennessee, we build to your prints and specifications, and your local installer handles the fit. For projects near our Brentwood showroom, our own team measures and installs. With solid wood kitchen cabinets, the species is a real decision rather than a printed pattern. Hickory brings bold grain and movement, oak offers clean and familiar character, cherry deepens and warms with age, and walnut runs rich and dark, alongside options like maple and quarter-sawn white oak. 

Because these are real hardwood boards, the wood you choose is the wood you get, not a photograph laminated onto a panel. The finish matters just as much, which is why we offer more than 200 of them, applied by hand and worked into the grain so the color holds its depth for decades instead of clouding or peeling at the edges.

The Family Behind the Cabinets

We are Kurt and Lisa Fuchs. In 2012, Kurt began working directly with Amish woodworkers because he trusted real hardwood built by hand over anything a factory could turn out. Our first furniture store opened in Nolensville in 2017, and our pieces have since reached homes in 49 states.

Cabinetry followed naturally. When we opened The Amish House Cabinetry in Brentwood, we brought the same makers and the same material standard to the kitchen. We know the people who build for us by name, and every set of solid wood kitchen cabinets we sell is made the way we would want them in our own home.
